Joseph A. Craven

Born and raised in Springfield, Illinois, Joseph (Joe) A. Craven joined his father, Donald M. Craven, as the third generation of Craven to practice law in Springfield. Joe was born and raised in Springfield, where he attended Pleasant Plains High School before graduating from Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois.

After graduation, Joe moved to Texas to attend the Baylor University School of Law in Waco, Texas. During his time at Baylor, he had the opportunity to work at the U.S. District Court in the Western District of Texas, as well as the Fourteenth Court of Appeals in Houston, Texas.

After law school, Joe worked for The Carlson Law Firm, PC in Killeen, Texas. Joe joined as an associate in the firm’s Mass Torts Department in 2015, where he had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of personal injury, products liability, and class action matters. While there, Joe was recognized as the Jared Stenberg Attorney of the Year in 2019, and was named Partner in 2020.

Shortly thereafter, Joe and his wife, Alyssa, had their first-born child and decided it was time to return to Springfield. Joe now practices with his father in Springfield, concentrating on media and municipal law, while maintaining a general litigation and appellate practice.

Joe has had the opportunity to co-author of the Illinois chapter of the Open Government Guide, a publication compiled and organized by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, as well as the MLRC publication on media libel law and privacy issues.
